Introduction
Receiving my Cambridge C1 Advanced result was one of those moments when a number represents much more than a score. The overall score of 186, Pass at Grade C, and CEFR Level C1 officially recorded a journey built through study, practice, work, and consistency.
I took the exam on June 20, 2026, in Belo Horizonte. I arrived nervous, but prepared. When the result was released, I felt relief, pride, and gratitude. Not because I considered the learning process complete, but because I could clearly recognize how far I had come and how much further I could still go.
Why I decided to take C1 Advanced
As an English teacher and Civil Engineering student, I wanted to measure years of learning against a respected international standard. The certification was not simply an external requirement. It was a personal goal: to test my communication in a comprehensive exam and find out whether I could achieve an ambitious objective.
Teaching English has allowed me to follow other people's development and see firsthand that learning a language requires continuity. At the same time, becoming a candidate again brought me face to face with the uncertainty, limitations, and discipline that are part of every learning process.
My preparation for the exam
Preparing while balancing work and university required discipline, patience, and consistency. Each part of the exam demanded a different approach: comprehension in Reading, accuracy in Use of English, organization in Writing, focus in Listening, and confidence to communicate naturally in Speaking.
The greatest challenge was not pursuing perfect preparation, but staying consistent even during busy weeks. This process reinforced an idea I also try to share with my students: real progress tends to appear when contact with the language stops being an isolated effort and becomes part of everyday life.
Preparation reminded me that confidence does not come from the absence of difficulty. It grows when we keep practicing despite it.
The experience on exam day
On June 20, I entered the room knowing I would be challenged in different ways. Reading and Use of English were the parts I found most demanding. They required constant focus, careful interpretation, and precise decisions within the available time.
Speaking was intense and, at the same time, very rewarding. More than producing correct answers, it required listening, reacting, and building communication naturally. When it ended, I was not certain about the result, but I felt that I had approached the experience seriously and had managed to demonstrate an important part of my journey with English.

At the same time, I do not see C1 as an endpoint. The result reflects the progress I have made and the road still ahead. The certification brings satisfaction, but it also increases my responsibility to continue studying, teaching, and using the language with clarity and purpose.

In my academic life, C1 strengthens my ability to access material in English, follow international content, and participate in contexts that require advanced communication. As a Civil Engineering student, this expands the possibilities for reading, research, and knowledge exchange throughout my degree.
Professionally, the certification adds an external benchmark to the experience I have already built as a teacher. It does not replace classroom practice, listening to students, or continuous improvement. Its value lies in confirming a stage of my education and giving me even more confidence to take on new challenges involving English, education, and communication.

Conclusion
