Returning to class and beginning a new cycle
Returning for the second semester of Civil Engineering feels different from arriving at university for the first time. Much of the first semester was about adapting: understanding the academic routine, getting to know the institution, organizing my studies, and beginning to see how different subjects connect to the profession.
I now return to Universidade FUMEC with greater familiarity, but also with an awareness that the challenges are increasing. The second semester represents continuity and greater depth. It is another step toward turning an interest in engineering into technical knowledge, discipline, and the ability to analyze problems responsibly.
A curriculum with new kinds of challenges
The subjects already confirmed for this semester include Physics I, Integral Calculus, Projective Drawing, and Sociology, with Sociology delivered online. There will also be an extension activity related to sustainability, whose official name is still to be confirmed.
The full curriculum includes other academic activities, but I prefer to record only the information I have already confirmed. Even so, this group already points to a more diverse education, combining mathematical reasoning, an understanding of physical phenomena, graphic representation, social reflection, and environmental responsibility.
Physics I and Integral Calculus
Physics I and Integral Calculus are among the subjects that most capture my attention. They require consistency, conceptual understanding, and frequent practice. More than solving exercises, I want to understand how mathematical and physical models describe situations that will later appear in fields such as structures, materials, hydraulics, and construction.
Projective Drawing
Projective Drawing adds another important dimension: representing ideas accurately. In engineering, a solution must be understood by different professionals. Developing spatial awareness, drawing interpretation, and attention to representation standards will be an important step in turning reasoning into technical communication.
Sociology and the sustainability extension activity
Sociology, taken online, broadens the perspective beyond calculations. Buildings and infrastructure exist within social contexts and directly affect people's lives. The sustainability-related extension activity follows the same direction by connecting academic education, environmental responsibility, and the practical application of knowledge.
Engineering is not made up only of numbers and projects. It also requires an understanding of people, resources, impacts, and the responsibilities involved in every decision.
What I hope to learn this semester
My main expectation is to strengthen the foundation needed for more advanced stages of the degree. I want to become more confident in mathematics and physics, improve my technical representation skills, and understand how sustainability and society influence engineering decisions.
I also hope to see connections between the subjects. When content stops appearing isolated and becomes part of a real problem, learning gains meaning. I began to notice this integration in first-semester projects and want to explore it further throughout this semester.
Balancing university, work, and study
The new semester also demands organization. I continue to balance my degree with professional responsibilities in education. I therefore intend to maintain a routine of frequent review, work ahead on assignments, and divide larger tasks into smaller stages.
In subjects such as Calculus and Physics, leaving all the material until close to the exams tends to make the process more difficult. My goal is to remain in regular contact with the exercises, record questions, and monitor my progress week by week. The same logic applies to Projective Drawing and extension work: organization and continuity should produce better results than last-minute effort.
My commitment for the semester: study regularly, ask for help when necessary, record what I learn, and treat each subject as part of an integrated education.
Another step in building my education
I am still at the beginning of my degree, which makes every semester especially important. This is the time to build foundations, discover areas of greater interest, and develop a professional mindset early on. I am interested in construction, building diagnostics, and project management, but I know that a consistent education depends on learning from every stage of the program.
This article also serves as a record of that journey. I want to return to it at the end of the semester, compare expectations with results, and recognize both my progress and the areas that will still need attention.

I begin the second semester of Civil Engineering with enthusiasm and respect for the new challenges. Physics I, Integral Calculus, Projective Drawing, Sociology, and the sustainability-related extension activity offer different but complementary perspectives on an engineer's education.
My goal is not merely to complete another group of subjects. I want to use the semester to mature my approach to studying, connect theory and practice, and continue building the career I chose with consistency.
